Look at this and it’s not even completed yet

This is so exciting – the front of the new wing is looking great, imagine what it will look like when completed. The internal fittings are going on at the same time but that will be another unveiling hopefully sometime soon.

Here we are folks, inside the big build. The gentlemen are walking through what will be the Reception and Lobby area, it is so spacious. And then the view from inside the administration office. And hey look …….. 2 new lifts, WOW! That will make a total of 3 lifts in the hotel. 

 

Coming Along Nicely!

Hey folks, sorry for the long silence….. not that progress has stopped but I have been away. When I got back I could not believe how rapid the works had progressed. Here are some pictures, the frontage of the room block is getting made up beautifully, don’t you just love the colour scheme? And………. The Reception/Lobby area is coming into form and ………look – there is a new slip road into the car park!

It’s like seeing a caterpillar morph into a butterfly. With more fittings and furniture going in we can see the gradual transformation. Look at that awesome retro wallpaper!

The Lobby and Reception Part 2

Just a few days ago the steel frames were being erected for the Lobby and Foyer area, we must have blinked because now there are steel frames for the roof. This team doesn't stop for a breather when they get going. Go team go!!!

The Lobby and Reception

Things are really moving! The steel frames for the new Lobby and Reception area have been erected, this forms the backbone of that area, won’t be too long before they are filled in with walls and partitions. Stay with us for further updates!

The Mock-Up Room

Hi Folks, 

Hope the year is going well for everyone so far. It is for us because, as we speak, the mock-up room is developing and we hope to be able to see the final product in a couple of weeks if not sooner. Happy New Year all! Hope everyone had or are having a great break. Our construction crew however, cut short their holiday break to get on with the build. And we can see our new reception and administration  area being charted on the foundation. There’s the lobby and the reception counter and the offices……

Stay on this journey with us as we take you through the evolution. It will be thrilling!

Broken Silence

Hi all! Apologies for the long silence….however, you can be sure that work on the redevelopment did not stop, it is full steam ahead.

Besides the new guestroom block we are getting a whole new contemporary façade, just to refresh your memory, here is an artist’s impression of the new Reception/Lobby. Well, work has started on this and this morning bright eye and bushy tail, contractors were pouring concrete at 5am! Watch this space to see the progress on this.

The Icing is on the Cake

That crane is putting the roof on the new block. It is exciting to be right here watching these significant progress happening. And another progress which is equally thrilling - the interiors are being planned. Just like the plot of a good film, it will be revealed in good time to you. Watch this space.

We have finally been allowed inside the build and we can’t wait to share this with you…. We will leave it to your imagination to see the final product, with the elegant corridors and guestrooms offering state of the art technology!

From out of concrete and bricks….

And so the character of the new block is emerging, from out of all the project meetings, ideas, plans, concrete and bricks, the third story is now very much evident. Well done to the project team.

Fast as the Flash, well almost!

It may not seem to be any different from the outside but look carefully and you can see the walls of each room in the new block coming up. Wow, that’s what I call progress. We will have to keep taking these snapshots so that we don’t miss anything!

Clearing way for the New!

We get gold in exchange for silver…… we were sad to see the old reception and administration block demolished and cleared, but see what we have got in exchange…… the new block is looking better and better each day as the internal walls are coming up.

Out with the Old!

Farewell Thee Well Old Girl, you have served us well for over 40 years, you stood up even against the powerful quakes. No looking back now, the whole team is looking forward to the new look Sudima Christchurch.

The Silhouette

After many project meetings involving architects, contractors, builders, designers, cabling specialists etc, the new block is taking shape. The silhouette of the blocks against a new dawn holds a special meaning in that it is the beginning a new era for Sudima Christchurch Airport. The demolition of the old frontage tells us to let go of the old and embrace the new!

Last week we changed the door lock system of 2 wings to the Kaba system, this system interfaces to our Property Management System. The key is cut as we check in guests thus maintaining accuracy in guestroom numbers and validity of the key on the number of nights that the guests are staying for, we are definitely moving forward with the times!

Hotel facade getting a brand new look

Our Reception has moved to a temporary location to make way for the construction crew to get on with giving us a brand new Reception/Lobby area and a new façade.

 In addition, we have a new hotel entrance by way of container at the front entrance of the building – Very Christchurch don’t you think!

We’re all looking forward to seeing our new look in months to come.

Moving Upwards

Things are moving upwards at Sudima Christchurch Airport this week, the exterior walls are being erected - this will be followed by slab foundation. The exterior work comes together rather quickly so we are looking at having an exterior fame complete next month. We are also pleased to advise the work is all on track.

The Pool

As the redevelopment continues the outdoor pool is now closed and filled in. This will make way for a landscaped courtyard (available on completion of redevelopment)
